Carl Zuckmayer was a German writer and playwright, best known for his play 'The Captain of Köpenick' which contains anti-militarist elements. He was born on December 27, 1896 in Nackenheim, Rhenish Hesse and died on January 18, 1977 in Visp, Valais, Switzerland at the age of 80. He was married to Alice Herdan Zuckmayer and Annemarie Ganz and had a daughter named Maria Winnetou Zuckmayer. Zuckmayer was a prominent figure in German literature and is still celebrated today.

Franz Babinger was a well-known German orientalist and historian of the Ottoman Empire, best known for his biography of the great Ottoman emperor Mehmed II known as the Conqueror. He was born on January 15, 1891, in Weiden in der Oberpfalz, Bavaria and died on June 23, 1967, in Dachau, Germany at the age of 76. He studied history and Islamic art in Würzburg and Munich.
